Choosing the right size carport starts with knowing what you want to protect and how you plan to use the space. At Heritage Steel, we help customers find the perfect fit for their vehicles, equipment, or RVs—ensuring there’s plenty of room for protection, accessibility, and long-term durability. Whether you need coverage for a single car, multiple vehicles, or a large RV, the guide below will help you determine the ideal carport size for your needs.
Single Car Carport
If you need a carport for a single vehicle, we recommend a 12’ wide carport ranging from 20’ to 25’ long. If you prefer a little more space, consider going up to an 18’ wide carport.
Double Carport
If you need a carport to cover two vehicles, we strongly suggest a 24’ wide carport. Many manufacturers may try to sell you an 18’ or 20’ wide cover, but those sizes are typically not wide enough to comfortably fit two cars or trucks and allow the doors to open easily.

TIP: You can always go wider if you’d like, but we strongly recommend not going any narrower than 24’ wide!
Triple Carport
For a triple carport, we recommend a 36’ wide clear-span building. While commercial buildings tend to be more expensive, you can achieve a similar amount of covered space for a better price by choosing a Heritage Barn or an American Straight Line Barn.
RV Cover
First and foremost, it’s important to know the height and length of your RV. We can accommodate any size or height you may have. Once you’ve determined those measurements, you can start customizing your cover.
We recommend purchasing a cover that’s no less than 18’ wide. Going too narrow can make it difficult to back into or drive through the structure.
If your RV has slide-outs, and you’d like to keep them open for cleaning or living space, be sure to allow enough room around your camper for comfortable use and access.
